I'm not ashamed to say that I fell in love with Jennifer O'Neill in "The Summer of '42". I saw the movie for the first time at an impressionable age when she was, in fact, the older woman to me, back at a time when a woman in her early 20s was my fantasy, a creature that was beyond me in many ways and I hoped would be more than happy to initiate me into all that was wonderful, mysterious, and feminine in her world. The mixture of heartbreak and eroticism in "The Summer of '42" really touched me and elevated both the heartbreak and the eroticism to a level I've seldom experienced at any other time in my life. And I can't go home again so that may be as good as it ever gets for me. I hope not, but ya never know. The theme music played an important part in the experience, too.
Jennifer, if you ever read this, I have loved you from the first time I saw this movie right up until today. And it breaks my heart that I will probably never get a chance to make love to you with the theme from "The Summer of '42" playing in the background. Sometimes life is unbearably painful and the tears that are running down my cheeks are telling me that this is one of those times.

This is one big fat reason why children aren't supposed to watch "R" rated movies because they can't handle it.
Get the facts first - you can distort them later!

I just know I am going to regret this posting, but what the heck I know what I mean and I know that what I am going to say is true.
You speak as if your experiences "with" Jennifer weren't true, EclecticCritic.
But, judging by your words, they were. There's no need to insist in observing them as "untrue", as a mere fantasy.
It's a matter of choice how one interprets any given experience. And since this experience was clearly very important to you, I don't see the point of interpreting it as a mere fantasy. (Fantasy and imagination are not the same.)
You speak of "love" and of "heartbreak". That's why I am assuming that you have an imagination vivid enough to create a situation in all its details.
So let me ask you something: when you "observed" any particular detail of the scene in your mind, in your imagination - how did it feel? How
does
it feel? Didn't your heart leap? Didn't you feel a rush of happiness go to your head?
Aren't those feelings and even pysiological reactions
real
?
You see, REALITY is infinitely more complex than a single thread of actions, perceived as the only possible "truth".
I don't know how much you know about these things, and I am not going to indulge in any lectures, metaphysical or otherwise, so let me say just this.
There is a huge, essential difference between mere "fantasy" and an experience in the realms of the imaginary. In fact, there is an essential difference between fantasy and imagination; one is merely a flicker, with no depth to it, while the other is a fundamental creative force. (You might want to read Sufi mystics, for example, if you are interested in this subject.)
In other words, you
had
your experience with Jennifer. Clearly, it was real enough.
Be happy and grateful for it. Don't demean it unnecessarily with misinterpretations of "reality" and with shallow fantasies.
