moreover, how does he keep showing up in front of the camera. there is nothing appealing about him. he's actually very strange looking and annoying
first Modern Family, then Justifed, and now Veep. I really want him to go away!

He's a funny, interesting, intelligent person who happens to not be an Adonis.
You might even have a friend in real life who's valued not because they're beautiful, but because of the aforementioned traits. Sometimes TV program creators try to inject a sense of realism into their shows, to provide for better, more realistic writing, and to make the programs relatable.
If you just want to watch a bunch of beatiful people, who may or may not have anything engaging, or interesting to say, watch Twilight.
