He's a funny, interesting, intelligent person who happens to not be an Adonis.
You might even have a friend in real life who's valued not because they're beautiful, but because of the aforementioned traits. Sometimes TV program creators try to inject a sense of realism into their shows, to provide for better, more realistic writing, and to make the programs relatable.
