I've read about it, but I think Payne has perfectionist tendencies, so when he is writing/directing a movie, he wants it to be perfect. That doesn't count times when he is 16d0a writer for a movie that either he doesn't direct or ultimately his screenplay isn't the one used (think Chuck and Larry). Quality is better than quantity. Plus he is producing more projects now and doing more hands off stuff. However, I'm definitely looking forward to his next film that he writes/directs.

Why does he have such a long break from directing? I mean, he has so many fans after his last three movies.

According to a piece in today's Omaha World-Herald, Mr. Payne is working on the screenplay (with Jim Taylor), and it probably won't be ready to start filming until this fall.
