What was up with him becoming obsessed with his physique in the late 80's/early 90's? Here's a guy who made a semi-career making fun of other peoples quirks on SNL, and then he becomes an ambassador of vanity.

In retrospect it really looks like he got big time into steroid use. I think we're much more savvy about steroid use today and can spot it much more easily.
It's kind of sad really because he went from being a promising young comic to a steroid muscle bound pitch man for Miller Lite. Then he became a buffoon and ironically became what he used to mock and satirize. He has some of his muscel bound comedy specials on Youtube and they're really lame and kind of bizarre.

At the end of Huck and the King of Hearts he looked jacked up with his wife beater on. Couldn't believe how huge he was.

I think that started because he wanted to make a spoof about Bruce Springsteen and the Born in the USA tour. It was part of Piscopo's "New Jersey" special. The spoof was kind of awful and pointless. Piscopo couldn't really sing and then he was accompanied by a weak cover band. It was just kind of embarrassing really.
Anyway he started to lift weights to replicate Springsteen's arms with the Born in the USA look.
Piscopo got really into bodybuilding after that to the point where he was obsessed with it. There were even widely circulated rumors that Piscopo had started taking steroids. His career went in the toilet around the same time. His career really took an strange route as he went from being a promising young comic into bodybuilding/miller lite pitch man.
Strangely he became one of the vain jerks he had previously satirized.

I saw a clip from the awful Chuck Norris 90's kids movie
Sidekicks
where Piscopo was the villain and I was surprised to see the shape he was in, it seemed out of place for him.
I suppose he and Carrot Top can be inducted into the Bodybuilder/Washed-Up Comedian Hall of Fame?
