Edmund is the son of Charles Purdom, the author of The God Man, the biography of Meher Baba. I don't know whether Edmund is a Baba lover.

It was with great pleasure that I have read Dejael's comments with regards Edmund Purdom, as these are my sentiments exactly.
"The Seven Signs of Christs Return" is beautifully narrated and hosted by Edmund, and is really an eye opener to anyone watching it, and so thought provoking. Edmund has also narrated "Where Jesus Walked" and this too is really beautiful. I have always found Edmund Purdom's voice very pleasing to the ear.
Edmund Purdom probably enjoyed his life far more away from Hollywood, where he could be himself without all the shallowness of tinseltown.
Always remembered

I have word from one who knew Edmund Purdom that he was a Roman Catholic for much of his life, but converted to evangelical Christianity circa 1990, and in 1997 he narrated an apocalyptic video documentary which supported his faith, entitled "7 SIGNS OF CHRIST'S RETURN", which is available on video.
For many years he was a recording executive for RCA Italia Records, the Italian division of RCA Victor, in Rome, and he lived there for more than 50 years.
I'm sure Mr. Purdom was a person of deep spirituality, and has gone to his final reward with gladness. We shall miss him, but his legacy as an actor is inescapable. That he never became a major Hollywood star was probably not very important to him, he was an actor's actor, and focused on the craft of acting, rather than screen stardom. At least he did star in a few Hollywood epics of the 1950s, that are still enjoyed worldwide by audiences today on television and video.
I most particularly enjoyed his sensitive performance as Sinuhe, "he who is alone", in the screen adaptation of Mika Waltari's sprawling epic novel of the spiritual awakening of ancient Egypt. Darryl F. Zanuck's lavish wide-screen epic misfired as popular entertainment, but succeeded as a metaphysical saga on the search for the ultimate meaning in life and the quest for the true God, in spite of itself as a lusty sword-and-sandal drama. Of particular interest is its offering the world an all-too-brief screen glimpse of the monotheist Pharaoh Akhenaten, and his wife Queen Nefertiti. Of course, the film's historical flaws are obvious in omissions of the reigns of three kings of the so-called "Amarna Age" including the now-popular boy-King Tutankhamen, but the spiritual tension in the film is what has endeared it to audiences for generations, and of that, we may be sure Mr. Purdom would have felt a great sense of accomplishment.

Another Meher Baba devotee is singer Melanie Safka, who learned about him when she picked up a button with his picture on it and the words 'Don't worry, be happy' this was in the years before that phrase was used only in an ironic sense. I'm not surprised to hear that Edmund knows of him.

Hi tt1798
I have not accessed LordMeher.org, and I thank you for this information and will certainly look it up.
I have subsequently finished reading "The God Man" and found it a very facinating book, and thoroughly enjoyed Charles Purdoms style of writing. Not knowing anything about Baba, I found the boo2000k and subject well worth the read. In fact I have recently ordered another book by Charles Purdom, and am looking forward to receiving it at the end of May.
As for Edmund Purdom, I have been a fan of his since I was 9 years old, and try to get as much information about him from the internet as I can, but alas I have not been able to find much on the websites I have been into. Most of the information is only about his films. he seems to be a very private person. I am aware that he lives in Rome and to when he was born, but did not have the other info you supplied in your letter. I have also tried to find more info on Charles Purdom, but no success besides him being an Editor, writer and an arts critic and date of birth, and that they lived in Welwyn Garden city, Hertfordshire, England.
If you know of sites I can brouse, I would appreciate it very much.
Greeting from South Africa.
Ann / stelco.

Hi Ann,
Have you read the online version of Lord Meher? LordMeher.org?
you can type in Edmund Purdom and come up with this:
Edmund Purdom was an actor. Baba remarked to him, "Don't give up attachments, but do not become a slave to them, either by thinking of me sometimes."
Edmund replied, "Of course, I have been brought up by my father in an atmosphere of your love and teachings."
so, he had contact with God. He may not know if he is a Baba lover conciously or not, but he sure sounds like he "got it" all his life. He was born in 1924; his father Charles met Baba in 1931 and was completely devoted to Baba so Edmund was in that atmosphere since he was 7 years old.
lovingly, tt1798

I was just wondering if you ever had a reply to your question about Edmund Purdom as to whether he was also a Baba follower. If you did find out, could you please let me know, as I am reading Charles Purdom's book "The God Man" and would like to hear if his son shared his sentiments & interes.
Thanks
