Look, I don't want Ratner touching this film with a ten-foot poll, but it seems that your argument for his inability to handle such material is because he killed characters off suddenly. I'm sorry, but that's not a credible reason to dislike a film. As painful as it may be to see your favourite characters killed off with extreme prejudice, it doesn't mean that a film is bad just because the director doesn't obsess over the source material as much as you. Lots of great films feature characters being killed off very suddenly and unceremoniously, but they still manage to tell interesting and investing stories. Besides, don't you think it's slightly refreshing to see a film where almost anyone can die? After all, that's what made 'The Dark Knight' and 'The Dark Knight Rises' so great.

My first thought when I first heard this news is what the hell are Warner Brothers' thinking? On their shortlist are Ben Affleck and the Wachowskis, two ambitious choices and two men who have a working relationship with WB, Zack Snyder who is directing Man of Steel and Ruben Fleischer who is an emerging, so how did Ratner join this list?
Ratner is a terrible director, he won't let the Rush Hour series and Rush Hour 3 really was a real insult, made even worst by the fact that Chris Tucker was paid $30 Million to be an unfunny motormouth, Red Dragon was just a copy of Jonathan Demme's style because the studio wanted to play it safe and he ruined X-Men with his comic tone, even in action scenes (just watch this embarrassment:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SbvTvExxrvY&feature=related
), his inability to handle characters, espeically multiple, complex characters and just a complete yes man. If Warner Brothers thinks that Ratner is a good candidate because he has experience directing a superhero film that had a lot of characters then they really need to re-watch X3 and see the fans reaction because he took the lazy route, killing off and removing characters, some with no dramatic weight and he had it easier as well because most of the characters were already established. X3 was just the Hugh Jackman/Hugh Berry show. With a Justice League film he would need time to build up the characters and his track record is not reassuring.
Lets us look at some of the projects that Ratner has also proposed over the years, he wanted to make a Joker Spin-Off starring Robert Downey Jr:
http://splashpage.mtv.com/2008/09/23/should-there-be-a-joker-spin-off- film-brett-ratner-thinks-so/
, he wants to direct a Youngblood's film, a C-List comic book series and wanted to make a Storm spin-off with Halle Berry.
Ratner is also a massive douchebag, he has a terrible self-centred personality and it is clear he is a director in it for the money, not a love for story-telling. He is prove that going to film school is no substitue for talent. He bragged about his sex life in a very unprofessional manner on the Howard Stern show which got him booted off producing the Oscars. And he is a suck up, he is despite to become a Spielberg protege, even though he does not have the talent, vision or ambition like JJ Abrams or Robert Zemeckis. He goes on about how Spielberg funded his final year project at NYU when in reality he just pestering Spielberg's company to point where they sent him a cheque and told him to leave them alone.
Ratner was so how linked The Hobbit recently, but that was really just a threat to try and make sure that Peter Jackson would return to Middle-Earth. I personally hope that Warner Brothers are pulling a similar trick. He is not even an A-List director like he was before he got the X-Men gig.

A message to WB - DO NOT HIRE THIS MAN TO DIRECT "JUSTICE LEAGUE"!
Not only from a fan's perspective, but from a financial perspective. It would be devastating to the DC brand if you put Brett Ratner in charge of this movie. There is too much riding on Justice League and on the future of DC/WB movies. After nailing it with Batman you somehow completely blew it and set the DC universe back with Green Lanterns. Ratner is a sure fire disaster and would put the nail in the coffin, without a doubt.
Let's first hope Snyder turns in an epic Superman.
Thank you.
