I love "thank you for smoking" and I like "Juno" and "Up in the air" but with "young adult" and now "Labor day" it seems to me that his work is no longer a high level. The script and the direction have no rhythm at all. Everythings becomes flat! I'm disappointed!

I didn't like Young Adult and from what I hear Labor Day and Men, Women and Children are pretty terrible.

Exactly what I came on here to say. Started out 3-0, but ends up 3-3.
Reitman was makin' interesting comical/topical films, retreated to lesser fare like
Young Adult
and
Labor Day
, then attempted a return with a "little-too-late" take on the Internet (
Men, Women, and Children
). Hot to not, and it's really unfortunate
You have fiddled with the tribal drums of nature! And YOU PLAY TROMBONE!

I think his work would be panned before release if he weren't Iven Reitman's son. In fact, all the re-editing shows he has very little raw talent to start with.

For "Thank You for Smoking" and "Up in the Air"? Not really. He has a great eye for good stories and greater performances. Even "Juno", which I'm not the biggest fan of, has a really good story and Ellen Page's performance was great.
As for "Young Adult", I know people have serious problems with it, but I think it's great. It allowed Reitman and Diablo Cody to expand their horizons and really see the popular girl for who she really was. And then you have Charlize Theron's performance, which is up there with her "Monster" work as a career definer.
The only film I'd say was weak was "Labor Day", but I give him props for trying something else.

I don't think he ever had it. The acclaim for his first three films remains perplexing.

I think that he was trying something new and with that there is always a risk involved. I don't see it as a failure, I saw him branching out and, unfortunately, it didn't quite work. However, I'm excited that he is departing from the tried-and-worked technique. It's a sign of growth.
