His movies aren't bad, but they aren't great. In 20 years, no one is going to talk about how great any of his movies, up to now are. I guess he would label them comedies, but Up In The Air is not funny at all. Young Adult was supposed to be funny, but I didn't laugh once. Thank You For Smoking was maybe his funniest movie. Bb68ut he's too pretentious. He can't make a movie and have it just be a comedy. He needs it to be some sort of indie, cool comedy. And the problem is his movies end up being very slow paced and boring at times. If his movies are like this now, what are they going to be like in 20 years? When older directors stary making depressing or boring movies, he's already made 3. I'm not saying he needs to direct Meatballs or Twins, but come on, make something intersting. Even his commentaries are boring. He talks too much about the themes and meaning of the movie. We can tell that from watching the movie. We don't need you to state the obvious, to show you're a director who went to film school and wants to show that you chose a shot for a certain reason or you gave someone direction on a scene or that each scene has meaning. Anyone that knows anything about movies, knows these things.

personally i think someone like 'Darren Aronofsky' is quite overrated on IMDb in general as he's no where near as good as he's made out to be as the only film really worth mentioning of his is The Wrestler with basically all of his other films being Thumbs Down status.
Jason Reitman on the other hand has made four memorable films so far. Reitman's films are no where near boring to say the least as i consider boring (and when i say boring i mean genuinely boring to where your struggling to keep any interest in the film and not just mildly uninterested in a film) the worst crime a film can commit.
I guess he would label them comedies, but Up In The Air is not funny at all. Young Adult was supposed to be funny, but I didn't laugh once. Thank You For Smoking was maybe his funniest movie.
i don't really label his films comedies they are more drama than comedy.
even his 'Thank You For Smoking' is sort of a drama/comedy mix but it's style is not really of that straight forward simple laugh-out-loud type that you usually think of when you think 'comedy'. but i am sure i do have a slight laugh here and there in it but it's more for the way the dialog is and situations they are put into more than just simply saying something funny like your more straight forward comedies do. personally i am glad he don't make typical comedies as those tend to not be memorable in general as the memorable ones tend to be fewer and further between.
but i would agree with you that overall 'Thank You For Smoking' is probably the closest to a comedy of the four films he's done but even that, as i was saying, is sort of a drama/comedy mix.
at the end of the day i think Jason Reitman has a solid style to his films as when you see his films you know what to roughly expect assuming you seen his past films.
but apparently you don't like that style or maybe you where just looking for something else when going into his films as it appears you want 'comedy' which i personally see more drama in his films than comedy as if you want those laugh-out-loud comedy type films your best off sticking to the ones that are meant to be like that as your not going to get those with Reitman.
