I went to read the synopsis on Dream House but there was none but I did read the comments of someone who watched it. They talked about someone coming to NYC from the country in a camper and decides to build a house there and it dealt with the problems he encountered. Probably the closest thing to the OP's request we are going to find.

It is called Loblolly Pine (long leaf) but I didn't see it in his work listing. Google Loblolly Pine and see if it comes up with the movie.

It's probably my imagination. I've looked at his page but can't find it. The story was set in NY. I was thinking, it was Schneider or Wopak, moved from Mississippi to a ghetto area. The movie shows how he adjusts an learns to fit into the 1908neighborhood.
One think that sticks out he was a carpenter. And was facinated by some wood called Looplally Mississippi Pine. Or something else like that. I saw it on TV, a kind of movie of the week thing, Late 80's or early 90's.

Need way more to go on - like recent? one of his from the 80s? any other hints??? Or do you remember who else was in it? Moving from the south to NY is a wide range to think on
