Back in 2007 when it was announced that Dylan Walsh was being cast in the Terry O'Quinn role for the remake, I thought that Jill Schoelen should be cast in the Shelly Hack role and made mention of it on The Stepfather board. Casting Jill instead of Sela Ward would have been a respectable salute to the original, especially since Jill and Dylan are roughly the same age. It would have also been a way to re-introduce Jill to the movie world and open up new acting opportunities for her. Today I bought the newly-released DVD of "The Stepfather". I plan on showing it to some friends who've never seen it or even heard of it until recently.
