Fans of 'That Thing You Do!' will get a kick out of the ending of 'La La Land'.
SPOILERS for 'La La Land'
Ryan Gosling's character in 'La La Land' is a huge jazz aficionado. The whole movie, he is pursuing his dream of opening a jazz club. At the end of the movie, Tom Everett Scott (Shades from TTYD!) plays Emma Stone's lover, who drags her into a jazz bar (which turns out to be Ryan Gosling's characters' bar). In case you don't remember, Shades was a huge jazz fan, and even ended up playing as a jazz studio musician at the end of that film. There's no doubt that the 'La La Land' director cast Tom Everett Scott as a reference to 'That Thing You Do!' He even talked about his love for TTYD! in an interview recently.

That's amazing.
Anyway his character on La La Land was great - we know Mia ended up with a cool guy anyhow. He even dragged her to check out Seb's which is awesome. And Tom portrayed him perfectly.

Over the holidays rewatching One True Thing where he plays Renee Zellweger's brother. Yesterday at the movies at La La Land and thinking . . . "Where did I just see this guy . . ."
