Just watched Love finds you in Sugarcreek and recognized him away - he was in That Thing You Do

I read an Entertainment Weekly article back in '96 where Tom Hanks said that were he younger, he would've portrayed Guy Patterson. And Tom Scott seems as a young Tom Hanks to me. There's nothing wrong with that; it's called making movies pragmatically. I think I see what the Director was going for and I'm glad that Tom Hanks portrayed Mr. White. Right there in the thick of things and a bit of vicarious living on the side. Those scenes in "That Thing You Do", near the end where T.E. Scott is playing opposite Rita Wilson, Mrs. Tom Hanks, are awesome.

From TES's trivia: During auditions for That Thing You Do! (1996), Tom Hanks was opposed to hiring Tom (Everett Scott), because of the the fact that Scott could've passed for Hanks 15 years ago. It wasn't until Hanks' wife Rita Wilson saw the audition tape, and decided he was cute, so, Hanks decide7ecd to risk hiring Scott.

I always think that when I see this movie. I thought it WAS him at first until Tom Hanks showed up lol. It's not just the hair, it's his smile and whole mannerisms. Could easily pass as Tom's son.

i totally agree they look alike. Today, i turned on the TV and chose to watch something in FOX. There was a movie, i never knew which was it but the first person that was shown from where i started watching was tom everett scott. Of course i didn't knew who he was and thought he was tom hanks, 2 min later tom hanks was shown and i was like they're not the same person, then liv tyler came out to the screen and i realized i was watching "that thing you do"

OMG me too, I was watching Because I said so in the cinema with a friend and kept asking her if she thoguht he looked familiar and if she remembers what the kid in BIG looked like, because I could have sworn he's the kid from BIG! There is also a similarity to Tom Hanks of course.

i totally agree with you. i just saw "becuase i said so" and i kept thinking that he was the same actor in "big" who played the younger version of tom hanks' character. he isn't the same guy, but he definately looks like he could be tom hanks' son.
i think they should play a father and son in a movie. that pairing would be very convincing.
