Does anyone else think this guy is one of the best screenwriters of all time? I mean, seriously. This guy made wrote nothing but Gold for all of the Twilight Zone episodes. I can't think of a single episode he wrote that didn't have me on the edge of my seat, or hiding behind it.
I just really think he's one of the greatest in the industry. And the content on television these days just emphasises how great he was, and the absence of works that come close to the same level.

I also think that he's one of the most talented screenwriters of all time, plus a great narrator.
It would have been great if he had collaborated on a screenplay with Hitchcock directing and Cary Grant as the lead actor.

A lot of what he wrote was sheer genius.
His script for Planet of the Apes was rewritten by Michael Wilson, but there's still some traces of pure Serling in there. The twist ending could have been lifted right from the Twilight Zone.

He was very good and one of my faves. But "gold" for all TZ episodes is just idiotic. He wrote very fast and loose to meet production schedules, and some of his output is total crap.
But that is to be expected, it takes a lot of work to write good stuff, not perfection. He's great, but has a slush pile as well.

Absolutely. I can think of no one who even comes close to his genius. I saw the original Jack Palance version of "Requiem for a Heavyweight" when I was a kid and later wrote a paper on it for a high-school English class. Anthony Quinn was wonderful, but nothing could touch the original, which was done LIVE. Serling was a giant stuffed into a tiny body. The fact that he smoked himself to death at 50 makes me cry almost as much as "Requiem" did. What a massive loss for all of us.

A great screenwriter in every sense. Not only were his plots imaginative but his dialog sparkled with imagery and wit. Wordsmiths of his caliber are rare indeed.

There are a few turkeys floating around in the Twilight Zone but only a few, I'm glad he has a credit for Planet of the Apes, even though everything I have seen or read mentions that it is more Michael Wilson's script which we appreciate. I've seen the Jack Palance version of "Requiem" once about ten years ago on AMC. Is it or the Anthony Quinn version better? Oh and Rod Serling probably is the single best writer associated with a particular show. I know he carried the lion's share of TZ, 80% of each season was supposed to be written by him.

Yes! You took the words right out of my mouth. Just look at this one work: Requiem for a Heavyweight. Absolute gold.
I think he's one of the great visual medium writers.
