I thought your comment was going to be about his first and middle names! John Wesley was the founder of the Methodist Church. I grew up Methodist (attend a Presbyterian church now), so his name has always caught my attention.
If I recall, John's father was a Baptist minister, so I find it amusing that his name is that of the founder of Methodism.
