With Gena Rowlands receiving an honorary Oscar probably for being a pioneer in starring in independent films that she starred in in her husbands films . I wonder if Liv would receive the same for being a pioneer for foreign language films , I don`t recall her being in any Hollywood or English speaking films.

I love Liv Ullmann and think an Honorary Oscar especially for her exemplary body of work with Ingmar Bergman would be incredible. I also love Gena Rowlands and am glad to see the Academy is paying their dues to this incredible actress. There should be no sense of competition especially among these women when there is so much talent between the two of them.
From what I've heard and read, Liv Ullmann did do a few Hollywood, English-speaking films back in the 1970s, which is when she was all over the place, even on Time magazine. It is too bad she never won a competitive Oscar but then again - who cares about Oscars anyway? They're political anyway. Despite some of her work in Hollywood, it is her foreign films that she is predominantly remembered for to this day, not that there's anything wrong with that.
