Like many people I know Liv Ullmann best from her legendary work as one of Ingmar Bergman's wonderful troupe of regular actors. So I'm fully aware of what she's capable of. I'd really like to track down some of her other work and would like anyone's suggestions for her greatest work with other film-makers. Thanks in advance!

'Leonor' is a very underrated film. She is good and very beautiful in the title role and it is good to see a very old-styled Gothic Romance (aka before the 1840s) on screen. It is of course based on the short story 'Wake Not The Dead' written by Ernst Benjamin Salomo Raupach and published in 1823;the film is rather close, though the characters tend to have different names (for instance the 'Leonor' character was Brunhilda in the original text) and the hair colours of the female leads are swapped amongst other minor things.
"The game's afoot!"

Try to see a Spanish film called "Leonor", directed by Luis Buuel's son, Juan Luis Buuel. It contains one of the best performances of her entire career. It's a somewhat strange film, full of symbolism, and not the kind of film everybody enjoys. But her performance in it is breathtaking.

The Emigrants is the only non Bergman film that Liv Ullmann has ever been good in that I have seen. I have not seen The New Land though given it is the sequel to The Emigrants I can see so reason why she would not be good in that.
She has been ill served by her parts in English language cinema. The best English language film she appeared in was Gaby but she is pretty terrible in it, and thankfully does not ruin what is an otherwise wonderful film.
