Well a popular, well-loved actor does not make a film technically "great.." Many considered the movies he starred in to be a bit trashy. films like "The Sheik" were based on dime store books, and many were romantic fluff. If any film of Valentino should make it into the top 250, it should be "Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse," as that is truly a great film.

Chaplin, Fairbanks, Pickford etc predated Valentino as superstars. Of course, Valentino was not the first matinee Idol, but he was the first Latin Lover. Most leading men before Valentino were clean cut all-American types like Fairbanks or Wallace Reid. The first real matinee Idol of the screen was Francis X. Bushman. After Valentino came Ramon Novarro, John Gilbert, Antonio Moreno, Ricardo Cortez and Gilbert Roland.
If I would pick one Valentino film for the top 250 I would go for THE FOUR HORSEMEN OF THE APOCALYPSE. It's a technical marvel for 1921 and Valentino is magnificent and clearly shows he was born to be a star.

Valentino being the first superstar in the world is debatable. I think Mary Pickford and Charlie Chaplin were just as popular, certainly known worldwide and predate Valentino. He may have been one of the first sex symbols but not the first ever.
Anyhow, the list is reflective of users' opinions and most people don't watch silent films for a variety of reason. In fact, there are only a handful of films from the 20s on the list and the majority of them star Chaplin.
