Younger Ralph Waite had done work with the NAACP during the civil rights movement and during an episode of the waltons the one where they had the Native American come in they wanted to use a white man but Will Geer and Ralph Waite refused to work until they actually got a Native American actor to do the part! I enjoy him in everything he's in that I've seen him in!! He111c's an amazing father and an amazing man. I wrote a letter to him not to long ago and he had even sent me a note back it was just so amazing I hope to meet the man some day

He played some realllyyy good bad guys in his career. I remember Robert Redford saying that playing bad guys is a lot more fun than playing leading men.

Here's how good an actor he is. 35 years later, I'm still feeling somewhat betrayed by the way Pa Walton behaved in Roots.

Mr. Waite is one fine actor. The only things I've seen him in are "The Waltons", "Roots" and the made for telivision movie "Angle City." Not one sour note in any of those. I've seen "The Bodyguard" but didn't know that was him as Costner's dad. Oh well, I know it now, and will enjoy watching him in that flick next time I see it.

See him in NCIS. Wow.

I am a huge fan of his acting especially in Cliffhanger when he is grinning and then laughing in the big dramatic scene of the film, way to go Ralphy boy.

Perhaps we are distant relatives as Ralph Waite and my dad look EXACTLY alike too! It's always been cool to see him in a movie or tv show. Even their voices are similar!
The funny thing is RW and my dad have grown to look more alike as they get older! My wife and I watched HBO's Carnivale and she was amazed.

He is so natural too.You don't feel like you are watching someone play a part-he is a fantastic actor.
BTW I wish there was some way I could send him a picture of my dad- they look enough to be brothers- always have- even back during the Walton's days. Sometimes people look alike for awhile then as they age that changes but they still could pass for brothers.

Ralph Waite has a quiet intensity that makes his performances unforgettable. My favourite is "Five Easy Pieces."

I enjoyed him in Murder One. I wasn't allowed to see Roots when it came out as I was too young, and since my grandparents liked The Waltons at that age I avoided it all costs. Now seen both of them and he really impresses me.

I'm a definite fan of Ralph Waite. He's a wonderful character actor. I especially enjoyed his performances in "Cool Hand Luke," "Trouble Man," "Red Alert," "Roots," "Crash and Burn," and "Cliffhanger."
