Absolutely brilliant. I am glad I was on the flat floor and in line to get the maximum effect from the CG projections on The Wall itself. This technology is always impressive, so using it to bring a superb but 30-year-old staging concept right up to date was inspired. When Roger ducked under a 'revolving' effect, the illusion just seemed the most natural thing in the world.
It helps that I've always adored the album of course! But this was the ultimate gig for me. Roger has lost none of his righteous anger, politically, and has made sure the messages are still powerful and relevant to recent events, but he's mellowed so much in other ways mocking his younger self (present via some 1981 footage) for being grumpy, disconnected and beep up"!
I couldn't care less that he augments his ageing voice with backing material openly on Mother, but most likely elsewhere as well. This is Pink Floyd! So the orchestration, the sound effects and voice clips (all extremely effective in surround sound, in this vast arena with it's near-perfect acoustics) these are always going to be played in from the original/earlier recordings. Thankfully.
Quite apart from that, the band are superb and playing live, the rest of the singers, the whole theatre of it, is just wonderful. It saddens me to think he will not do this sort of thing again (apparently), but at least I was there. Now it would be more than a bit good if he were to get cracking at last on another album.
because I reappear with tedious inevitability
