I agree with LetsPoddy as well as with others. It shouldn't be a requirement or a sense of fulfillment for everyone by having children. People view things in different ways, just because the norm of society commonly have children, it doesn't mean it should always be an expectation in everyone's lives.
I'm sure many consider having children as a great form of accomplishment and to carry on a little bit of yourself in the future. However, having kids doesn't mean life will be perfect or at least any better. Examples that were brought up including children neglecting their parents and being put in retirement homes are prime examples of how generations today see their elderly as nuisances.
There will always be people who don't want to have children for various reasons and that should be viewed as any different from those who do want children. It's an individual's choice and no one's business. Some people are not fortunate to have children and while others will find them maddening to be around. Either way, it doesn't matter why someone doesn't have children, just that they don't have any should be enough information to be shared.

THIS is the most response-filled post on Betty White's page????
This is a question that would not even likely be found on a male star's page.
I bless her for devoting her passion to her career. A lot of people in life should have done that rather than trying out parenthood for society's sake.
An actress who wants to act, and makes that a priority, is an honest thing.
There's no danger that the world's population will dwindle just because someone knew they weren't interested in being a parent.

It's irrelevant. People who got nothing else push out kids because that's all they got. Breed, breed, breed, like Catholics.
I don't know why ANYONE would want to have kids in the world we have today. The end of the planet is within sight. The Bloated Orange beep Stain is being coronated in a couple of days and it will be the end of the world as we know it. For the rich and famous, no sweat. ..anyway. Having kids is like having a great bowel movement, good for you, but it adds nothing to the world and pulls you down, down, down. Successful and smart people don't breed.

If she were a man, would you still wonder why he never had kids? Why is it that, if a man has no kids, nobody questions it, but if a woman over a certain 1354age has not produced offspring, everyone wonders what's wrong with her? It takes
men
to make women mothers, so we should either question both sexes, or (preferably) neither.

I can totally understand why people don't want kids. Like 10 years ago I had a friend, she had a boy of 3 years. Sometimes I was babysitting him. And not just with me even with her he was very exhausting. Crying and whining nonstop, very hard to please. He needed attention like every second. That would be too exhausting for me 24/7. And I would have better things to do than watching my kids playing pot hitting or egg-and-spoon-race etc.. I like kids and babies are cute but I wouldn't want to care about them and stand the noise and the stress every day.

That's just what I was thinking. I read an interview that Betty White gave. She said that her first two husbands were very nice men but she was very involved with her career and didn't give enough to her marriages. If she wasn't that interested in her husbands, it's doubtful that she was thinking about motherhood!
And she was over forty when she married Alan Ludden. A lot of women don't want to start families in their forties. I think Marlo Thomas was over forty when she married Phil Donahue. Both men had children and I guess it's enough for some women to be the devoted stepmom.
Betty White has had a long, fantastic career. I admire all the work she has done with animals over the years. I'm sure her life is very full.

Too bad not having kids was the majority and those who wanted kids was the minority.
If anything way too many people have kids that shouldn't. WAY too many.
We as a nation can't even take care of ourselves. Crappy healthcare, over crowded prisons you name the problem, we have it. If there was 50% less population there'd be a lot more to go around for those already here.
People don't think that way when they have kids. They just want kids.and poofthey have one.

Well if you don't find the right person to have kids with, then don't have kids. Period. That is why I have yet to have children. It is not that I do not want to, but I would not bring any into this world without stability like I was raised. Also I have had a physical problem which prevents me from easiness of conceiving. I always knew for almost 16 years now that I really could not conceive a child, since I was a late teen.
