His bio states he was training as a doctor but does anyone know if he actually became one (an actual M.D.) before switching to acting? Because if he did, wow, thats quite the career change, especially after all those years of medical training to just turn and walk away from.

Here in the states, it is a lot of law students turned actors it seems. I am currently in law school and all I heard my first year here was how all lawyers are just frustrated actor wanna-be's.

Actually, there are quite a few actors/doctors over in jolly ol England. Mostly older actors. It seems to happen a bit. Look at Graham Chapman!

Peter's played a doctor several times:
Medics - medical student and became a doctor
Murder Most Horrid
Queen of Swords - Dr. Helm
Holby City - surgeon Dan Clifford
He handles the medical jargon very well

Ironic then that his character of Methos was/is a trained Doctor. Among other things.
Ow! complains Joe,
Where did you get your degree?
Methos says Heidelberg,
1453.
Medicine or dueling?
Both, he conveys.

Thanks for the info. Thats too bad cause you're right, he does seem to be a very caring person and would have made a good doctor. Unfortunately medicine, like so many other professions, seems to becoming more about money all the time rather than helping people. I'm from Vancouver Canada and our health care system, while still fairly good, has been going downhill for some years now and nobody seems capable of fixing it.
Maybe Peter could get a role on a medical drama someday. I think he could do very well at that.

he was in his fifth year and a month from graduation when he got out. From the source-
Hed gone into medical school with an idealistic view of doctors as altruistic caregivers. The reality of hospital life, and the far-too-often selfish approach of some doctors to their work, both disillusioned and saddened him.
awww makes me feel bad for him, I've never met the man but he does seem incredibly sweet and caring and it's sad that he went into it because he wanted to help people but then was crushed by them. The way he is so good with people I think he'd of made a really good doctor.
