After watching a repeat of the "Aileen Wuornos: Life and Death of a Serial Killer" documentary the other day on Irish television, it just completely upset me that this woman was executed.
Just beforte her execution the examiners said she was in good form for execution but from looking at her many interviews, she appeared to be mentally challanged. They should have just put her in a mental institute or something 'cos clearly she wasn't well at all.

If killing is wrong, then you can't punish the killer by killing him. You can't make a right out of something wrong. It's nonsensical.
However, in the end, for whatever reason, she did want to die. So she got what she wanted. Personally, I'm not sure if a mental institute would have made her happier - I think too many things had happened in her life, her childhood, teens and later life, including being imprisoned for 12 years, - t7echere's only so much a human brain can handle. I think it's no surprise she wanted to die. The system should have picked her up when she was a teen abandoned by her family and living in the forest, and given her good therapy, maybe things wouldn't have ended up in the way they did.

Well, I can see both sides of this argument. Yes.. what she did was terribly wrong and, personally.. I DO believe that although she was definately seriously troubled, mentally speaking, she knew what she was doing. AND.. she knew that it was wrong. I too feel for the victims and their families. I don't know how accurate the info on "Monster" was.. but if it rings even close to the truth.. then I'll make an exception with the first victim.. IF, in fact.. that's what he did to her. But as far as Aileen goes.. I don't feel sorry for her but I really DO believe that she needed serious help from the mental health field. I'm not so sure that the death penaly was the way to go. I'm sure that mental health experts learnt a lot from her while she was on death row and could have learnt more. But.. hey!.. she wanted to die at the end anyway. So..??..
