A question to all you people who know her work better than I do..
Is there a film in which she played a hearing & speech impared woman?
Why I ask
I was watching a detective story, set ..40's. There was a young actress who I think was 2000supposed to be somewhat stupid .. or at least lacking in acting skills & taste. Said actress has a grudge against an agent for only offering her (in her mind) poor roles "There was that one where I had no lines! You wanted me to play a deaf & dumb broad! .. They gave it to Jane Wyman". The inference being that, in fact, it was a good role..and JW probably went on to gain accolades for it.
OK.. you are going to tell me it's a really well known role and she got an Oscar or something for it..

Just saw her in a movie with David Niven. Hollywood cranked these out about once every three weeks.
One look at Jane Wyman and the word adorable leaps to mind. She could act too. She was a best actress Oscar winner.
If you know the term cute as a button, one look at a Jane Wynan movie and you'll totally get it. She lived to be near 90.

Ah! Thank you .. so I was right.. In the murder mystery (An Ellery Queen), I was watching ..that remark showed the actress in question had no taste..
And .. co-incidence time .. I ordered the DVD of Johnny Belinda a few days ago, still waiting for it to arrive. Well.. if I'd waited a while I'd have known the answer
Many thanks for a quick reply.
