I'm not a country music fan but Yoakam is easily one of the best transitional musicians to actors. His performances in Sling Blade and Panic Room have been great especially in Panic Room where he stole the show from other fine actors.

I just saw Bandidas and really enjoyed his performance. Did that movie ever play in the movie theaters (It has Penelope Cruz and Selma Hayek for chrissakes!) I never heard of it until it showed up in my Netflix search under Dwight's name.

I just saw him in "Red Rock West". It was a small part, but effective.

yea, i seen him in panic room and sling blade. i was pretty surprised. u wouldnt think a country singer would have such a dirty mouth lol. his acting is very good i must admit.

His music's not bad. He has a very distinct sound. One song that I can think of in particular is "Pocket of a Clown" which to me sounds kind of like a country version of the band Cheap Trick.
But his acting blows me away. He's a great villain (Doyle in Slingblade and recently Jackson in Bandidas). I hear he's great in Panic Room as well, which I saw, but don't remember sitting through much of that one. I would describe his acting as very "smooth". He is great at playing the guy you love to hate. And "for a cowboy", he's pretty damn versatile and quite under-rated.

What they call country music today does suck. Real coun2000try music died in the 60's. NashVegas pop is what "country" radio is.
Dwight is the real deal though. A true artist. And he gives the proper respect to those before him.
As an actor I think he is pretty good. I thought he was very good in "The Three Burials" but as Doyle in "Slingblade", that was as good as it gets.

I have a tremendous respect for this actor. Every time I see a movie he's in, I forget that he's the guy playing the part. And when the credits roll at the end, I think to myself, "That was Dwight Yoakam?" Every time.
Counry music still blows, though.

Have you seen Dwight's performance in "Three Burials"? It's very subtle and that's amazingly difficult for an actor. My man Dwight's got the chops!

I think hes specialising in playing psychos. He also played one in Sling Blade. I was very surprised to learn that he was a composer and singer, rather than primarily an actor (just so you know where Im coming from, "new music" to me means 1830s). While I thought Panic Room sucked, Dwight Yoakam did a fantastic acting job, almost as good as he did in Sling Blade.

Dwight is my favorite country singer. I first seen him in Sling Blade, and was amazed by his performance. He is truly one of the best cross-over actors I've seen.

I think he studied acting prior to becoming a professional musican, in any case he has always taken acting more seriously than most music stars who essentially just play themselves or just show up and read the lines. I've noticed many movie reviews single out his performances. I think with the right script, he could easily win an acting Oscar.

LOL - that's funny.
But I know what he means - and country music has gone in the toilet since the mid 90's, it's really boorish redneck music now in a way it never was before. People like Dwight who are real artists with their music, who write powerful lyrics and tell the truth in their songs, well you are not going to hear that on country radio now. Clint Black is another wonderful artist who writes intelligent lyrics that are too smart for today's country radio.
