Yu Aoi and Aoi Miyazaki are two of the most prominent young actresses in Japan. They're the same age, have similar personalities, and even did a movie together (Gaichu). So to make things interesting, let's compare the two:

Who 5b4has the better career so far?

Who do you think is more popular in Japan?

Who is the better actress?

This is a tough one! Yu has won more awards, but Aoi has had more leading roles. Besides 2 or 3 films, Yu usually plays a supporting character. So I guess I would have to give this one to Aoi Miyazaki.

"Nana" was a huge box office hit for Aoi, but then Yu also had her big hit in "Hula Girls". I would say that Yu Aoi has the edge in popularity only because she does so many endorsements in Japan which would make her more of a household name.

This is the hardest question to answer. Both actresses can show a wide range of emotions and have played different types of characters in their film careers. From what they have shown me, I would have to say that this is a tie.
Who do I prefer to watch?YU AOI of course! She's my favorite actress, but Aoi Miyazaki is great as well.
Anyone else care to comment?

LOL
If some other fans were doing the work, I'd be happy to sit back and relax really. xD
Oh! I've seen Su.Ki.Da! I totally forgot about it because I didn't enjoy watching it, though that was one of the first Japanese films I tried watching when I got all JFilmLuv a while back. I should give it another try some day, maybe I'll appreciate it more I've been meaning to watch Nana just to see why everyone loves it xD and I'll keep Tada, Kimi on my list =D
On the subject of AALCC, I think Tsuda was perhaps the most sympathetic character - we feel sorry for Kuno, but we don't get to know her as much as we did Tsuda. Beautiful, beautiful scene with the kites, sky, cinematography and music. I love Salyu on this. ^^ Without the music, her voice I don't know how I would re-watch the film as many times as I've done. xP

Amy, thanks for the link to your Yu blog. You might be the #1 Yu Aoi fan outside of Japan!Congrats! I'll be sure to leave some comments on there.
Like you, I first saw her in All About Lily Chou Chou and eventhough all the actors in the film were excellent, Yu's performance really stuck out to me. The kite flying scene is probably my favorite scene in any movie. The next film I saw her in was Hana & Alice and after that, I was hooked. I also think that her looks have really changed since AALCC. She looks like a different person.
Anyways, I've been watching a few Miyazaki films lately and I really like her. You should check out more of her stuff. "Nana" is pretty entertaining and my favorite movie with her so far is "Tada, kimi wo beep AKA "Heavenly Forest". Also, "Su-ki-da" and "Virgin Snow" are pretty decent as well.

Why compare them? LOL' even though I'm gonna give my opinion as well They were on Gaichu (Miyazaki as the lead, and Yu as very very supporting), and they also did some NTV special together with Miyazaki leading again, and Yu playing the popular chick picking on her. Actually, I think they're friends in real life so why compete with each other?

This depends on "what a better career" is. Like you said, Yu has a lot of endorsements - and I've read that many people act and become popular so they can endorse stuff to make a living. So in the matter of that, Yu has a better career in that she has cash flowing in through the endorsements, and that sweet Kirin deal LOL - On the other hand, Miyazaki has more leading roles, and possibly more 'box office' presence and even offered more interesting/bigger role opportunities, or has projects greenlit easier.
So tie? xD

I don't know if to compare endorsement deals with popularity, considering endorsing something in JP seems to deal a lot with work in general. I always feel like Miyazaki is way more popular (winning all those random Oricon polls, and edging Yu by two or5b4 three spots), voted cutest smile, cutest face, cutest in a kimono, etc etc as well as how many of her products are released (often english subtitled, and even french subbed!!) - Miyazaki's fanbase (at least online) seems a lot bigger than Yu's.
I'm always complaining Yu deserves more attention. LOL' But maybe she likes it that way who am I to complain if she just enjoys supporting roles.
So Miyazaki wins?

Tough question to answer First, I have to admit I haven't watched Nana or any other thing with Miyazaki other than the ones I mentioned above, and last year's NHK's Atsuhime. She was marvelous there, I think she had a great balance of strength and vulnerability.
The first role I saw Yu in was on Lily Chou Chou, followed by Rainbow Song. I didn't know she was the same person until I checked IMDb. LOL - Anyway, she was my favorite character on Lily Chou Chou - I think she has a great variety of films, and often plays someone who knows way beyond her years.
Hana & Alice is a great example of that, playing a teenage girl almost behaving like an adult because of her broken home. An adult with her mom, and a kid with dad that scene with him and the "wo ai ni" uff! great stuff.
this is a very subjective question. LOL
of course I choose Yu! xD
