I've always liked Simon the best. He told it like it was, whether you agree with the way he did it or not. He never lied to anyone. Actually, I think Paula was the perfect counterpart to Simon. As nasty as he could get, Paula was usually there to let the contestant know that they were still worthy human beings. I will miss the two of them on that show, but I won't miss the show itself.
I think Simon is getting ready to move on. In fact, I think they knew long ago that Paula wouldn't be staying on and that's why they hired the fourth judge. It's just too coincidental that they hired her and then Paula left.
Anyway, I wish them all well. To me, Simon is the show. When he leaves, that will be the end of AI.

I don't think he's lacking a whole lot of fire to him, but he seems like a genuinely nicer guy. I've been watching some britain's got talent and x factor and that's the way it seems to me.
In the past, it seemed like his judging strategy with bad contestants was "You suck at singing and you suck at life. Now get the beep off my show."
Now, it's more like "You're not a great singer, but I think you should do ____ because you're good at it. We're still friends, right?"
It's common sense.

Maybe Paula rubbed off on him. I was quite surprised to hear him say how much he liked Paula and how she was one of his closest friends.
Perhaps, too, he's getting bored with the show? I know I am. I've watched my last AI show. It's time I moved onperhaps Simon isn't far behind.
I think you tend to have more fire to your personality when you're doing something you love, or that interests you. Perhaps his lack of fire denotes his growing dissatisfaction with the show? I know he's mentioned that he doesn't expect to be a part of the show for too much longer.
I guess we will see what wins out with him. The money or the love of what he does.
