All of this. They each have definitely tried smoking once in their life just socially. They also are from a generation and city and career path where many smoke weed so I know they've tried that too. Sadly, Smoking happens on set all the time. My friend works on a lot of projects cinematography, and He talks about how much smoking there is all around him. Even Ben affleck smokes, now, and i think that's being surrounded by that. Being around smokers long enough, the second hand effects might draw a person in. and a Social smoker will always lead to heavy smoker, sadly. That's how cigs work. they hook you. When actors who are not-smokers smoke on movies, they usually use herbal cigarettes. Which are nicotine-free. For example, Jon Hamm from
Mad Men
would smoke all the time in the show, but he doesn't in real life.
As for the question if Elle smokes. Well, pretty much all of her closest friends and the guys she dated are smokers. So it's extremely likely that she probably already smoked a few times in her life. However, I think she is maybe a social smoker at best. Otherwise we would have heard already reports of people seeing her smoking and things like that.
