I've always been curious about this, too. I think it comes up because women from India, or at least whose parents are Indian, are often strikingly beautiful, which attracts the attention of guys regardless if they are Indian or not. But does that attraction go beyond the physical? A lot of things that Indians do naturally can easily look antiquated or stupid to someone without the patience to understand the culture. Look at the unending war between Indians and Pakistani. Until 1945, that kind of warfare was pretty common in the West, but now that we've come to realize the vast cost of endless war, we look at Asian nations fighting and wonder at the necessity.
Then there are the differences in how families work. I think the average guy from America or Europe will struggle to understand these family dynamics (I sure did). And this can lead to a relationship full of conflict. Asians seem far less prone to rushing things, so we goras have to let things happen at their own pace, which could put us under a lot of stress.
I think Indian women intuitively know they have many difficulties ahead of them if they entangle themselves with outsiders. And they can't be as certain that the advantages are real. Plus women are progressing within the Indian culture, so an Indian man with modern values could be far more supportive than Indian men used to be.
If I were single, the gulf between me and Indian girls would be very hard to take. I feel for the guy who thinks he's in love with a Desi girl who doesn't respond. I picture myself in that situation and know it would drive me nuts.
So I just content myself with the thought that brown is beautiful (exquisite sometimes) but it won't be something I'll ever see close up.

a lot of western Indian-descended women, even ones whose families would be fine with it, generally arent as keen to date a non-Indian because most people who arent Indian in the West are very if not entirely ignorant of Indian traditions/cultures/attitudes/customs. even a lot of desi girls who do date white/black/whatever guys (though as someone else mentioned, ive only ever seen desi girls date white guys) eventually wind up with a desi husband because it's just easier on a long term basis.
there do seem to be quite a lot of young desi/white couples where I live (glasgow, scotland) though, both desi man/white woman and white man/desi woman, though.

Well, it seems that the only "outside" race considered is white. I almost never see Indian women with black or latino men. When I do, they are Western or Westernized (born in India but grew up in the States or born in the States and are basically American). It is still a very rare site to see. I guess there are not very many "Mississippi Masala" relationships.

That is B U L L SH IT . It more to do with upbringing.Im indian and half my family is white, literally. It goes way back hundreds of years ago into traditions when no one liked eachothers race anyway, parents really just wanted people into their own race and cast to have a sense of pride and greed amoungst other indians and to say my daughter has married a wealthy man even if i dont love him!. Well yes that worked out cos my mum is divorced because of this and has been happily in love with a british man for the past 7 years. Its not about love, its about status in society for most indians! AND its only SOME familys that dont allow indians to date outside their race. Whether you marry a white person or indian your gonna have problems either way and you can get divorced either way!

being asian you have to respect your parents wishes, so if they say they want you to marry a nice indian man, you have to start looking for a nice indian husband. but some girls have managed to change/bend the rules. (but these girls make up a very small percentage).
do remember there is a huge difference in the way indian girls are treated to indian boys. boys can basically get away with murder. but girls are often considered a burden. so if an indian guy got some random girl(s) pregnant, his parents would be inclined to eventually 4give him or they might even be happy for him but if an indian girl so much as has a boyfriend or has had sex before marriage or doesnt agree to an arranged marriage they wud probably kill her!!! Majority of Indian women prefers to be with men of the Indian subcontinent race because they want to be realistic about their future with the men they date (in terms of marriage and children) - South Asian marriages generally lasts longer than Western marriages. People dating outside the race are also frowned upon in Asian societies. It's also to do with personal preferences. Don't forget that Michael Caine is married to an Indian woman and Marlon Brando's first wife was Indian.

At univeristy, there are Indian girls, who date, within their own race, but there are also ones, who have white boyfriends.

LOL, I've dated an Englishman, an African, a Hungarian, a Koreanrace really doesn't matter to me as long as the guy is decent, really. And I am a Jat Sikh Indian girl.

Well, I'm half Indian so I guess it's different for me. But I don't really care, Indian or non-Indian, race isn't important.
