Sure, you can have a connection with someone online you never met or never will meet in person but it is nowhere near the same thing and never will be.
If you think it is then you are just fooling yourself.
It is much more fun to be doing actual things together with someone such as going out to a movie, a play, a sporting event, a comedy show together, playing a game etc or being there for them with giving a shoulder to cry on, a hug, seeing them in the hospital, other visits over tea or coffee, etc.
Those kinds of things are what makes the foundations for real friendships where online ones are just superficial words on a screen.
