Why do liberal entertainers become so predictably terrified over being associated with a conservative venue? You'd think their hysterical insistence that everyone tolerate ALL types of beliefs and lifestyles would include those with opposing political views.
Gov. Palin, like most conservative Americans, holds allegiance to God and country in high regard. She is from all accounts a decent person who truly cares about others. I have to wonder exactly what Ann and Nancy Wilson found so threatening when one of their nice-but-forgettable songs played briefly at a GOP gathering. Was it the fact Palin doesn't do drugs or her defense of the unborn? Her strong Christian faith? All of the above?
Sadly, not many people really knew who the Wilsons were in 2008 yet in their own minds they were still "relevant" and needed to draw attention to their aging selves. I'm embarrassed for them both.

I don't think the song was "banned" from being used in the campaign, because no permission was required for use of the song played Live in the arena. Permission is only needed if the song is embedded in a film or media ad - that's why Jackson Browne won a judgment for his song being used in a radio ad by a local Republican organization without permission.
Royalties (licensing fees) do need to be paid when a song/recording is played Live however, and the McCain campaign stated they paid those fees for "Barricuda" so had a right to use the song. I don't know how long they continued to use it though after Heart complained.
Now Ann and Nancy, if you granted permission and got paid, you then could have turned around and given that money to Obama or other candidates that fit your political ideology!
Actually that's exactly what Heart guitarist Roger Fisher - who co-wrote the2000 song though the Wilson sisters rarely mention that - did! He wrote on his website that he donated his share of the royalties to the Obama campaign, which he called a win-win situation.

That's good! I'm glad I didn't vote for Sarah Palin. That is a good thing they barred that song from the RNC.

I grew up listening to Heart and love their music. I'm not sure who originally said it, "Opinions are like a**holes, everybody's got one." For the most part most rock and roll performers are liberal/left leaning. However rock and roll is also a business. Ann and Nancy Wilson most likely gave money to the Obama campaign. I can understand the Wilson sisters being upset if they weren't asked for permission of the use of the song Baraccuda. What I find stupid and assinine is that I believe Ann Wilson said, "If they asked permission, we would have said no." This to me is very stupid. At the very least if the appropriate person from the Republican party or the McCain/Palin campaign asked for permission, at the very least would have had to pay the Wilson sisters. Now Ann and Nancy, if you granted permission and got paid, you then could have turned around and given that money to Obama or other candidates that fit your political ideology! Crazy, no that's capitalism. You know all these rock stars say that we need to reach common ground. I'm not sure how big a fan McCain/Palin and/or the Republicans are of Hearts music. I am conservative/libertarian. If I thought a song from the band Heart could be good for a campaign rally I'd be denied. Why? Because Heart could never phathom the fact that some of their fans might be conservative. All these rock stars think that only liberals are their fans. Why is it that only liberals consider themselves to be noble and tollerant. For Heart and other rockers that have called for Republican candidates to not use their music even it means that they the musicians will get paid shows they are the intollerant ones!

It's pretty ironic that Palin used "Barracuda" as a theme song, since the song is about standing up to injustice and fighting the powers that be. It should be the American people's anthem about why we shouldn't have that redneck psycho Palin in the White House. Keep her in the sticks of Alaska where the cold outside match her cold insides.
