I think without the competition of Brie Larson last year Ronan would have surely won. I have made a compilation of the best actress nominees for the Oscars 2016. I would HUGELY appreciate it if you guys could watch it and give me any feedback at all in the comments
I tried to edit so that you get a true sense of character depth, I hope you will see what I mean.

What does truly frustrate me, though, is the Academy passing over Saoirse's performance in The Lovely Bones. The unfortunate one-two punch of the critical/commercial panning of the film overall and all of the hubbub in the media about how she could become the youngest actor ever to receive two Oscar nominations was too just great an obstacle to overcome but neither should have been a factor. It's been years since then, so my memory of the nominated performances is foggy and thus I'm hesitant to say Saoirse deserved to win, but she most definitely should have been nominated and it's disgusting that the response to the film robbed her of that which she so rightfully earned.
You summed it up quite well there. I really wanted that one for her. I consider it to be be a very powerful performance, and considering her age at the time, in retrospect it just confirmed her stunning turn in Atonement was just the beginning of what will be a remarkable career.

That was the year that Sandra Bullock won for Blind Side. Gabourey Sidibe's spot should've gone to Saoirse. I will never understand why she got nominated for an oscar for that movie though it probably had more to do with campaigning than anything else.
Bullock is a great actress, but there is no way I would have given her the Oscar for a fine but unremarkable performance in such a formulaic film. However, the film made good coin, and she is much loved and respected in the industry, so it was IMO one of those wins where her peers felt it was "time to give her one."

I think so. Brie Larson delivered a great performance, but I feel that Room succeeds more because of Jacob Tremblay's performance whereas Saoirse carries Brooklyn upon her shoulders and delivers with aplomb. Eilis was a character she was literally born to play and it's unfortunate that she didn't quite get the recognition she deserved.
What does truly frustrate me, though, is the Academy passing over Saoirse's performance in The Lovely Bones.
Yes. She deserved it and many felt that way. But her time will come again whereas Larson is unlikely to get another chance to win.

No. She should have won a Best Supporting Actress Oscar in 2007 for 'Death Defying Acts'.
The Players of The Game are the scum of the earth.

she deserved that oscar, brie was great, but saoirse's performance in brooklyn was so much more touching, she carried the whole film beautifuly, seeing the reactions of people who can relate to eilis story is so nice. jacob was the highlight of room, but he wasnt even nominated. the day the nominations were announced, when they said saoirse's name everybody screamed, she was the only one who people actually cheered up to; same thing on the oscars day, when eddie said each name people screamed a lot more for saoirse than for any of the others actresses.

This isn't about the movies themselves but the performances, of which I thought Lawrence's was great. She deserved that nomination and the movie didn't deserve any for itself, that's why it got none. Bri deserved to win but if she hadn't, Ronan surely would've.

I still can't get over how ridiculous and cliche "Joy" was. It's funny, the background music you added actually elevated the emotional impact of that scene, when it really didn't have any. Although I think you did a good job, you posted this same post in all the actresses discussion forums saying they would've won. Kind of dishonest in that respect.

Really nice work. For me, Larson's achievement was in how well she played off Jacob Tremblay, who, for me, was the real star of the film. He should have won Best Supporting Actor and he wasn't even nominated.
