I bought the Dreamgirls DVD set when it first came out. It has three discs and is loaded with extras.
On the first disc are all the deleted and expanded scenes. The entire performances of the candidates in the talent contest early in the movie. One scene that should most certainly gave stayed in the movie is the full length Sreppin' to the Bad Side. It explains so much more about Curtis and what he did.
Jennifer Hudson was my favorite on AI. I lost interest after she was eliminated. She was treated so poorly on that show making fun of her dress and generally disrespecting her. But she handled it with so much grace.
I tried yo follow her career but there was nothing to follow for a long time. I learned a couple of years later that she had been cast in Dreamgirls. I also learned she had lost 50 pounds after AI, then had to gain it back for the movie. The director had to get her to show more attitude, she was no reserved and polite.
She lost her mother and nephew to a murderer. But at least her mother could see Jennifer had made it.
I am a big fan.
