Jonah Hill was great in the movie , his best performance so far. Movies like this is what he is best suited for where he both can show his comedy and drama-skills.

I still haven't seen Moneyball so this was the first time I've actually seen Jonah Hill not in Jonah Hill mode, and I was pretty impressed. He wasn't excellent, but he was pretty good. What I want to know is, did he really only get $60 000 for that movie? I know he's not A-list, but still, it seems like a pretty small number for such a big movie.

This is how I felt too. Ironically, especially after seeing him on SNL right after seeing him in WoWS, it made me think comedy is not really his calling so much as he ended up in it because that's where chubby actors can get their foot in the door. Now he's pulling away from the Apatow pack and just impressing the hell out of me these days. I don't follow his career closely (interviews etc.) but he was on Graham Norton not long ago and was very charming and fun to watch. When I think back to how repellent I found him in SuperBad, I am all the more amazed at how I see him now.
The Apatow universe is fine for what it is, but I'm glad he is no longer stuck in it.

Okay I wouldn't go that far. I'd say his current nom for WOWS is reasonable; he did a good job. However that doesn't necessarily mean I think his supporting performance was the best of the year.
His nom for Moneyball was stupid. That was an example of the Academy being impressed by the fact that he was so toned down from his usual clown persona.
Now to determine if he really has potential for greatness as you suggest, he needs to carry a film as a lead actor, and in a role that doesn't call for some slightly tweaked version of his past roles. So far, he hasn't really been tested.

Love Love LOVE this Jonah Hill creature! He deserved the Oscar for Moneyball and the same in "Wolf" with Leo! He has proven his acting abilities in supporting roles. Quick thinking Jonah is a hidden gem who has the ability to entertain audiences of all genres. He is a force who has been overlooked. Although he is still an up and coming rising star, he is almost within his own category which should not be unnoticed.
