Whomever is in charge of casting for the Doctor Who series is a genius. I hate to see one companion go, just like I hate it when a Doctor (actor) has to leave the show, but so far they just keep picking fantastic actors and actresses to fill the roles. It seems like each companion that comes along (for me at least) is the best one yet to 2000come along. I really liked Karen as well, but I've liked all of them since the new series has started.
And I really like Jenna-Louise Coleman a lot. I knew from the first episode she was in that she would make a good companion for the Doctor. She has tons of charisma and charm and she's quite cute. She's a really good complement to the Doctor and I hope she stays a while. She's funny and quirky and a little sarcastic. What more could you want?

She was great in the season premiere both as a character and actress so I'm feeling good about the switch. I imagine she'll be moving things along all the time by hacking.

what i said wasn't much of a contradiction anyway. bet is it is bound to happen and i don't know about you, but if you're watching Doctor Who, contradictions are the last thing you should be worrying about.

Oswin Oswald is NOT Clara Oswin. you can tell by the names. if you saw the Christmas promo, Clara looks like she's from an older era/time period. she's wearing like pretty fancy, old-style clothes, so she's probably a person from the distant past. Oswin Oswald is someone who seems like she could be from the future since she was on that Alaska ship or something who had tech enough to wipe out all traces of the Doctor, so she's likely from the very far future to even be able to land on the asylum as they did. so from how it seems and from what other Whovians said, it could be said that Oswin is a descendent from Clara herself by several generations.
The Doctor never really saw how Oswin really looked like cuz she was already a dalek when he saw her, so i bet the Doctor will never make that connection until later. it will be really nice to see that we'll know this little insider and be able to connect it all before the Doctor himself does also, Jenna's too awesome of an actress to JUST show up once and die in a single episode!

Why would the Doctor take on a Dalek as a Companion and one who has not been seen in quite some time?

I thought she was amazing in her first episode and I'm really looking forward to her reappearing in a few months. I'm almost sad that it will take so long for her to come back, damn it!

Last time I checked, the name Clara has not actually been confirmed by the produces, writers, actors, or any BBC affiliate.
Until we see Coleman on screen again, I'm referring to her as Oswin or just the new companion.

My all time favorite companion was Nyssa of Traken (4th & 5th Doctors)
although she (and the human who played her, Sarah Sutton)
were most delightfully female!!
I am intrigued that this new companion in her first appearance is like Nyssa in that she is both hot looking and possessed of an intellect and knowledge that can actually help the Doctor.

SPOILER ALERT! DO NOT READ IF YOU STILL NEED TO SEE DOCTOR WHO 2005 SEASON 7 EPISODE 1!
Her role was too big and memorable to just be a random guest star appearance.
When she returns they must establish some kind of relation between her new character (Clara) and the one she played in this episode (Oswin).
Seeing as they have different names and Oswin got blown to bits, I would guess she's either a twin or a clone. Or perhaps Oswin wasn't her real name, seeing as she kept calling the Doctor "Chin" and Rory "Nin2000a" she might not have given them her real name, which would mean Clara could also be the past version of Oswin (chronologically). But I hope not, seeing as then we'd already know the sad demise that's waiting for her character down the road. And then she should have remembered the Doctor (unless she got mindwiped somehow, like Donna).
