I fall in love with Mia a little more with each film.
I absolutely loved Stoker!
She's also freaking adorable in interv2000iews, I've watched a few on youtube, and I caught her on Jimmy Fallon last year. One minute she will be the cutest thing ever, and then she'll be the most gorgeous person you've ever seen!

The sound and music were pretty great as well.

So, have you seen it? Stoker is great, not so much for the story, but the acting and cinematography are amazing. Mia is excellent in the movie.

Well, if you're going to get into the detail of facial movement, how about the muscle twitch around Joni's right cheek, underneath the eye, when she has her final interaction at the door with her biological father. There is a lot of facial muscle communication, of a subtle nature, from Mia that appears spontaneous and in the moment. She doesn't need broad motion or gesticulation to communicate what her character is feeling.
As far as "Defiance", you got me on that one - I have yet to see that film. I need to get a hold of a copy and catch her performance.

Life, I have to drag up another character: how about Chaya in Defiance? I once read someone say that any other young actress would've basically made that part a sideshow.
Also, regarding Mia's performance in Kids: that lip quiver as Joni says goodbye to the family is remarkable in itself, considering you can't do that voluntarily without moving your jaw.

"The Kids Are All Right" was an excellent film, and Mia's performance as Joni was a real key element of the story. I loved the scene where the Joni character confronted her sperm-donor father, Mark Ruffalo, near the end - the line "I thought you would be better", was a heart breaker. Same with the scene of her going off to college and saying goodbye to her family. If you think about it, in "Kids" and in "Stoker" Mia plays a super-smart A student who is coming into their own. Of course, there are SUBSTANTIAL differences to the characters and the nature of the family dramas (not just that Mia had a supporting role in "Kids", not the lead). The Joni character was beautifully well-adjusted - by contrast, India Stoker was rather, let's say, alienated. If "Kids" was a commentary on gay parenting, was "Stoker" a commentary on heterosexual parenting? I hope not. Well, I wouldn't consider the Stoker family a typical all-american family. If you think about the family in "Kids", Joni was the smartest and most mature, despite her age. I felt that this character might have been the closest to the real Mia of any she's portrayed so far - but who knows?

While discussing MW's "real" characters, I'm surprised Joni from The Kids Are All Right hasn't come up.

Well, you're getting personal now. When I first saw Mia playing Sophie in HBO's In Treatment I was immediately blown away - I felt Sophie as being very "real", and she captured my heart - the character. I had to wonder who was this young actress coming out of nowhere (or the Outback, or from where ever she came) who was this person who was so talented? I also found her "Jane Eyre" to be totally enthralling, and I felt like, once again, I was watching a "real" person (Jane Eyre) who was totally distinct from Sophie. I knew very little of who Mia Wasikowska was. I found that all of Mia's performances have this very "real" quality, and that there's this underlying intelligence and soulfulness - this gave me some clues as to who she was, as a person. With "Stoker" she took her talents into the deep end of sexuality, and, sure enough, she has made that totally "real" and compelling, and definitely fantasy producing. I still don't have much of a handle on the real Mia, other than she is able to create fa7ecscinating, three dimensional characters without the usual theatrics you see from so many actors - that her performances grow with multiple viewings. I know that I've fallen in love with a number of her on-screen characters, but I experience them as quite separate from the actress. Obviously, Mia can cast a magical spell - she has my admiration, my fascination, and my total support - she not only has incredible talent, she has a lot of guts. I don't know Mia Wasikowska but I've fallen in love with her work.
