Amy Schumer isn't going to avoid current world events during her Oscar hosting duties.
The "Life & Beth" star is even trying to find a way to have Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky virtually attend the ceremony amid Russia's invasion of his country.
"I actually pitched, I wanted to find a way to have Zelensky satellite in or make a tape or something just because there are so many eyes on the Oscars," Schumer said during an appearance on "The Drew Barrymore Show," where she was promoting the 94th Academy Awards.
Schumer continued: "I think it's a great opportunity to at least comment on a couple of things. I have some jokes that kind of highlight the sort of current condition. I mean, there are so many awful things happening that it seems hard to focus on which one."
As usual, Schumer says she's not afraid to tackle hard subjects.
"I am not afraid to go there, but it's not me producing the Oscars," she said.
"I think there is definitely pressure in one way to be like, 'This is a vacation, let people forget, we just want to have this night,'" Schumer said. "But it is, like, well, we have so many eyes and ears on this show."
Schumer is co-hosting the ceremony with Regina Hall and Wanda Sykes.
The Oscars will air Sunday, March 27, on ABC.

That was a rousing speech by Michael Moore. The fact he was being boo-ed meant he was right. He was right about Iraq and Afghanistan. Then all the Hollywood phonies like Sean Penn jumped on the bandwagon the following year when the war was already well underway.
I find zelensky to be another war monger

Even though I have written and play a few anti war/world peace vision songs when I do not play or listen to those types of songs I want to escape the realities of the world.
The Grammys should be a night to celebrate music without really thinking of politics and world situations.
Or I find it hypocritical with their faux concern when there are so many other wars and conflicts going on that involve America inflicting misery and harm to civilians but none of those get any lip service at all.

Amy was ahead of her time! The Grammys stole her idea.
Ukraine’s president Volodymyr Zelensky delivered a pre-taped speech during the 2022 Grammys on Sunday night amid his country’s war with Russia.
The video introduced John Legend’s performance of “Free” as part of a special tribute to Ukraine, which has faced an ongoing humanitarian crisis since Russia’s invasion in early March. Host Trevor Noah introduced the special performance.
Even in the darkest times, music has the power to lift spirits and give you hope for a brighter tomorrow,” Noah said. “There’s nobody who could use a little hope right now more than the people of Ukraine.”
In Zelensky’s video, he described the current conditions of war, including the ongoing bombings and the “silence” that’s resulted, before encouraging attendees and viewers to “fill the silence with your music!”
“The war. What is more opposite to music? The silence of ruined cities and killed people. Our children draw swooping rockets, not shooting stars. Over 400 children have been injured and 153 children died. And we’ll never seem them drawing. Our parents are happy to wake up in the morning. In bomb shelters, but alive. Our loved ones don’t know if we will be together again. The war doesn’t let us choose who survives and who stays in eternal silence,” he said. “Our musicians wear body armor instead of tuxedos. They sing to the wounded in hospitals, even to those who can’t hear them. But the music will break through anyway.”
He continued, “We defend our freedom. To live. To love. To sound. On our land, we are fighting Russia which brings horrible silence with its bombs. The dead silence. Fill the silence with your music! Fill it today to tell our story. Tell the truth about this war on your social networks, on TV. Support us in any way you can. Any — but not silence. And then peace will come. To all our cities the war is destroying. Chernihiv, Kharkiv, Volnovakha, Mariupol and others. They are legends already. But I have a dream of them living. And free. Free like you on the Grammy stage.”
Legend’s performance featured a chorus and a backdrop of images from the crisis in Ukraine, as well as a segment from Lyuba Yakimchuk, a poet, playwright and screenwriter who grew up in the contested Donbas region of Ukraine.
In a take on The Lord’s Prayer, Yakimchuk described “parents whose house is in the line of fire and who won’t abandon it like a tomb,” and said of our daily bread, “give to the hungry.” “And forgive us our destroyed cities even though we do not forgive for them our enemies,” she continued. “Shoot and protect my husband, my parents, my child and my motherland.”
Face palm
If they can boo Michael Moore during his Oscar acceptance speech where he brought up a protest against Dumbya Bush getting ready to invade Iraq then they should not have Zelensky.
This war is bringing out so much hypocrisy in others.
