This guy comes from a rich family and most girls would find him attractive so I don't feel too bad in saying that he has no beep place playing leads in movies. He has next to no charisma or screen presence! He can't act and now, as evidenced by the horrible opening weekends of the Lone Ranger and The Man from UNCLE, he is pure box office poison. Not even Johnny Depp or Superman could save this big goof.

I too enjoyed his performance as Ilya. I thought he was the best part of the film. I haven't seen
The Lone Ranger
and am in no big hurry to do so, but it will be interesting to see how Hammer develops as an actor in future roles. And I wouldn't mind seeing him in a sequel to
The Man from U.N.C.L.E.

No, he phoned it in again. The lone ranger sucked because one sorry but who is armies hammer. They kept saying his name when it advertised on TV. You would think it would have got more buzz with all the promos and johnny depp. Second I saw his character tonto and he looked like jack sparrow except no pirate hat or shirt, people get sick of seeing the same character rehashed which is where johnny depp went this time. He is known more now for his quirky roles and it seems he takes what other actors pass on thinking he will kill the role but it doesn't happen anymore.

"generically handsome" is practically the definition of leading man looks. I thought Hammer looked uber-hot in
The Man from U.N.C.L.E.
I hardly even noticed Henry Cavill when Hammer was onscreen.

I actually disagree about Hammer having leading man looks. He's handsome but very generically-handsome; in a way that's not interesting to look at and looks flat onscreen. He needs a makeover. He needs to go back to dark hair or even the black hair he had in "Blackout"; he looked much more interesting and even had some earrings, which looked hot on him. I actually thought he was a hot latino guy the first time I saw the movie. And he needs a different look; he looks like someone's dad (which he is) but he's a young guy.

He's just a wooden guy like Ben Affleck. Both are great in small support roles or ensembles (Affleck in Good Will Hunting, Shakespeare in Love, the Town) but fall apart when asked to carry a movie.
There just doesn't seem like there is much going on upstairs. Like with Matt Damon (who admittedly doesn't quite have the leading man looks of Affleck or Hammer) you can see the wheels churning when he acts.

Armie does ok with a strong lead actor.
MFU didn't go anywhere because Henry Cavill is not a strong lead actor so, with Armie in tow, it was two "meh" guys leading a movie. Miraculously, the movie still turned out to be entertaining but didn't get a strong buzz because there were no standout performances and nowadays a movie needs dynamic performances to get a mention in the press.
But, I agree, Armie cannot carry a movie right now. Interesting because he comes across energetic (almost exuberant) in interviews but flat onscreen. I think he needs to change up his look a bit too; the Ken doll-blonde hair with the pretty boy face makes him come across boring.

You're entitled to your opinion and I'm entitled to mine. The guy simply can't act. Saw him in "Nocturnal Animals" a few weeks ago and he was terrible. Also I find it VERY insulting that you think I don't like him because he's Jewish. I could care less what his "background" is. I just judge him by his acting and it's terrible. I suggest you think twice before accusing a person of being anti-Semitic.

I don't find anything wrong with his acting and 'The Lone Ranger' was shown in the telly just before Christmas in the UK and was surprisingly really good fun, thoroughly enjoyed it as did my family & again. Hammer was very good IMO.
They just showed Mirror, Mirror on TV yesterday and again, he was great fun, absolutely NOTHING WRONG with his acting.
I think5b4 his background has got a lot of people hating if they're honest.

I agree. Can't stand this guy. His "acting" is atrocious. I couldn't believe it when he blamed the failure of "The Lone Ranger" on critics! It was his lousy acting that doomed that movie.

Being a big box office draw has little to do with looks and more to do with screen presence, acting ability, and charisma. People would rather see Peter Dinklage in a movie than Armie Hammer since the former has way more presence than the latter.
