She worked with the series creator, Eric Kripke, before. He may have enjoyed working with her and decided he wanted to work with her again. She also worked under NBC/Universal before. She had a recurring role on the Syfy original series Being Human last season. They may have had her under contract and thought she would be good for the role of Charlie.
But regardless of how she got the role I am glad she did. I think she does a good job, and I enjoy watching her on the series. She was a good choice.

Apparently they couldn't. They also had a lot of other casting problems and ended up settling last minute on a couple of them. That's too bad, because casting - more than any other factor can and will make or break a show.

not sure who you are watching, but she is just not very good . sorry i really want to like her and her character, but she is ruining the show . if you know her tell her to take an acting class . i am sure she will get better , practice makes perfect , but right now she is not cutting it sorry

She got the part by winning in. Acting jobs are the prize after intense competitions. Granted some actors get much handed to them due to their connections or lineage.
This would not have been the case for this lovely and intensely talented young woman. I know her work and congratulate her on her recent success. She was not a model and it wouldn't matter if she was. Models can be talented too. There is some serious sour grapes going on I'm afraid. .

They're spending it all on CGI. Anyway, I don't think she's a bad actress. It's nice to see a fresh face.

The show apparently has a huge budget (can't really see what they're spending it on, TBH) and seeing as how there aren't any other big name actors, my guess would be it's because of financial reasons i.e. she works for cheap.
