I enjoyed watching the fighting in this movie, but it seemed rather questionable.
The German unit approaching is a Mechanized battalion without tanks, perhaps 500 men. Probably having a fair number of halftracks. We have 10 allied troops with an M3 tank defending the well

Perhaps the German Commander would frontally attack the small number of allied men in his first assault. It seems likely that he would have used his halftracks in this first assault and not just have had men on foot. While the M3 tank might half nailed a couple of halftracks, the others probably would have made it across to the trenches, and the battle is over.

Assuming the 1st frontal assault fails. The German commander would have sent like a platoon of men around one or both flanks of the allies. Further, these troops could have been in halftracks. However, you cut it - battle over.

I am no expert on the arms of German mechanized battalions. They did indicate that the Germans had mortars, but mortars are not great anti-tank weapons. Thus, one would figure the Germans would be dragging some anti-tank guns behind their trucks to defend against British tanks. The combination of mortars and anti-tank guns probably would have finished off the allies.

Bogart puts the M3 Lee tank in a static position. Of course, the M3 Lee's main 75mm gun is not in a turret, so this greatly reduces its effectiveness. In general, one of the tank's advantages is its mobility. It might have made more sense to have taken the tank out before the Germans got to the well, and ambushed to column.

A small thing. Bogart has himself and 2 other Americans as tankers. Yet for some reason he sends one of the tankers (Waco) off to get help in a captured halftrack, reducing the total number of tankers to 2. It would have seemed wiser to send one of the British soldiers off to get help.
