<p dir="auto">(some time ago now) I really liked this film - and I still do. However I can see the flaws now. It's a bit hammy and the wartime speechifying seems clumsy these days, and perhaps the final line could have been better.<br />
But it's still very watchable because it's so well paced and filmed and the two leads are good together with Veronica Lake so tiny, beautiful, brave and sympathetic.<br />
Also, the lighting is very good. Too many films these days are shot in the dark and I sometimes have a problem figuring out what I'm looking at. I'm not sure if these films are dark for effect or it makes the CGI cheaper but it's definitely one thing the old, noirish black and white films did better.<br />
I have always depended on the kindness of Strangers - and the bastards let me down!</p>
