Crank: High Voltage (2009)
https://www.imdb.com/title/tt1121931/
Picked up where the first one left off. Even more over the top than the first one to the point of ridiculous.
Air (2023)
https://www.imdb.com/title/tt16419074/
Not about Michael Jordan story, but a story of a pretty much unknown Nike took their unlikely chance in persuading the rookie Michael Jordan and his family signing with them instead of the big name shoe Adidas and Converse. Inspiring story starring Matt Damon and Ben Affleck, directed by Affleck. I like this a lot.
Leave the World Behind (2023)
https://www.imdb.com/title/tt12747748/
Potentially a lots of good thing can coming off this mystery thriller. Started out promising, but didn't go anywhere in the 2nd half. Just a lots of dragged out tease. Most of the characters were annoying as hell, especially the female characters.
The Quiet Girl (2022)
https://www.imdb.com/title/tt15109082/
An awkward little girl from a poor and cold family went on to live with a childless couple for the summer as her mom giving birth. Her relationship evolved as she gets to know the couple. Exceptional, with little nuance that were beautifully played out. I love this kind of movie. Beautiful scenery as well.
May December (2023)
https://www.imdb.com/title/tt13651794/
An actress visited an unconventional couple whom she will be playing the woman in an upcoming movie. Played off like a mystery as she discovered more about the couple by interviewing various people. The musical score really enhanced the drama. Not my type of movie, but I thought it was decently made movie.
Dave Chappelle: The Dreamer (2023)
https://www.imdb.com/title/tt18278698/
Dave Chappelle continued to dump on the crazy modern society. Many story telling. Not as funny as his previous stand up, but the punch lines of the stories was effective. I enjoyed it overall.
Society of the Snow (2023)
https://www.imdb.com/title/tt16277242/
Already at least two movie was made about this story. There was the 1993 Alive, which I didn't see. Then ther was the 1976 Survive! which I saw in the theater. Survive! tried to gross the audience out in the controversial scene. Society of the Snow, however, was very respectful of the situation, with heavy emotional impact and life philosophy sprinkled on it. You can basically feel their struggle in the ordeal. Amazing setting too.
Navalny (2022)
https://www.imdb.com/title/tt17041964/
Something I did not realize happening in Russia during the pandemic that the opposition of Putin, Alexei Navalny rising in power and popularity in his promise to end corruption if becoming the President. Played out like a thriller. Deserving the Oscar win in its execution. Since this is a political documentary, I still need to be wary about the propaganda. Nevetheless, one can't help but root for Navalny.

I watched:
The Blue Bird 1940 8/10 I enjoyed this. I liked the performances and the cinematography was wonderful. Some interesting and memorable sequences.
Le Corbeau 1943 6/10 I liked the cinematography and the performances were fine, but I didn't find the story all that interesting.
The Devils 1971 8/10 This was wild. Good performances, visually stunning, making for an effective and intense experience.
Rhubarb 1951 8/10 This was cute and enjoyable. Good performance from Orangey the Cat.
The Cat 1992 7/10 A wacky sci fi horror film about a cat from outer space. The cat is awesome and the film really goes for it. Not everything works well though. Some fantastic sequences make it worth checking out.
Señorita 2011 6/10 I liked Isabel Sandoval's performance and there are a few effective moments, but some parts of the story didn't work for me. It also dragged in parts and felt longer than it was.
Forbidden World 1982 8/10 This was entertaining and fun.
Girls at 12 1975 9/10 I loved this. It was quite fascinating and charming. I just wish it were longer.
Bleue 2021 8/10 This is beautifully filmed and features good performances from the two young leads. The story is interesting and ambiguous, allowing room for different interpretations.
The Music of Regret 2006 8/10 This was quite something. Puppets! Meryl Streep singing to a dummy! People dressed as random objects dancing! There is a lot of unusual and memorable stuff going on. Some of it works, some of it doesn't, but it is so unique that you have to check it out. It is only 44 minutes and is currently available to stream on the Criterion Channel.
The Plastic Dome of Norma Jean 1966 6/10 I didn't find this that interesting. Sharon Henesy does a pretty good job and I like the look of the film, but it kind of fell flat for me.
The Rainbow 1989 7/10 Sammi Davis is very good here and I really liked the cinematography.
For a Lost Soldier 1992 8/10 Good performances from Maarten Smit and Andrew Kelley. The film tells the story in an effective and non-judgemental way. Whether that is a good or bad thing may depend on the viewer.
Whore 1991 7/10 I thought this was pretty interesting.
A Vampire in the Family 2023 6/10 This was okay. It wasn't very funny, but some of the cast were likeable and it was sufficiently amusing.
Tom Sawyer 1973 7/10 This had some charming and fun moments.
Gothic 1986 7/10 This is weird and wild, but somewhat uneven. There are some fantastic moments, but other stuff doesn't work as well as it should. Definitely worth checking out.
Deciding Vote 2023 7/10 An informative and interesting documentary short.
The Last Repair Shop 2023 6/10 I thought this was alright, but I didn't find it overly interesting.
Society of the Snow 2023 7/10 This is a well made film with some effective, powerful moments.
The Anne Frank Gift Shop 2023 9/10 This is surprisingly hilarious and smart, yet still has a good heart and a valuable message. The dark humour and serious themes manage to work really well together. Hope it gets an Oscar nomination.
Yellow 2023 7/10 I thought this was fairly well done.
El Camino Christmas 2017 5/10 Wastes some good actors and takes too long to get going. Not funny and not very entertaining, this is poorly written and doesn't land the right tone. Also, for a movie with Christmas in the title it is not Christmasy enough.
Dead End 2003 6/10 Effectively creepy and atmospheric, but could have used a better ending. A little too predictable and generic at times.

I watched a few pre-Code Barbara Stanwyck movies. In every one she plays a prole who sneaks or finds her way from poverty into the periphery of the upper classes. None of them are great movies. Baby Face was the best of the bunch. It's about the deleterious effects of reading Nietzsche. John Wayne has a very small part. It was one of the movies that finally forced Hollywood to start enforcing the Hays Code. Shopworn, besides having a weak story was hurt by the male lead's poor acting.
Baby Face (1933)
Forbidden (1932)
Shopworn (1932)
