The year repeating element feels like a gimmick and doesn't really fit with the film. It isn't necessary and they don't do enough with it to justify it. Performances are fine and there is some good drama, but I personally wouldn't consider this a film noir. Watched on Criterion Channel. 6/10 is my rating.

I can remember liking 'Repeat Performance' years ago. But when I re-watched it recently I jut didn't get that atmosphere somehow. I'm not opposed to dream/fantasy stuff impinging itself into everyday life in a movie. Perhaps I was just not in the mood on my recent re-watch.

I like
Repeat Performance
. Good cast, interesting story. It's sort of a B art film. A lot of talent went into its making. No, not
Film Noir
, but noirish. It plays like a dark fantasy, a dream film. The otherworldly aspects of it worked well for me, although it fell short of what I felt was the uncanny (Uncanny?), which is what it appeared to be aiming for. Still, nice try, and gratifying for those who are willing to submit to its ambiance.

This is too much like a fantasy rather than a thriller. I think a better film to watch regarding the granting of wishes is 'Three Strangers' with Peter Lorre and Sydney Greenstreet. You might find that one a bit more noir-like.
