If you want a more realistic husband/wife hell, check out "The Cat" with Jean Gabin. It's natural, and not so hysterical.

I hope one day they redo some of these classics. I don't want an overhaul of the script, just the acting. The scripts were always great, it's just that in those days they hadn't really recognized that stage and screen require different acting techniques.

She does, and so did "Gloria". Rowlands never attracted me sexually, but there was something about Liz, especially her eyes.
Susan Hayward, too. She was pretty, too. Not that glamorous kinda ****. I don't think I know the names of the prettiest actresses I've seen. Many were in foreign movies from Europe and some weren't the leading ladies.
Anna Magnani was another one. She had the entire package. And she was tougher than all the aforementioned.

I liked the "Gloria" role because she was tough, a former gangster's moll.
Taylor is beautiful but she does a perfect "bitch" as well.

In "Gloria", she's more of a tough cookie. That movie was actually made to sell, no one took it, so Cassavetes ended up making it. The little boy was annoying.
I love her performance in "A Woman Under the Influence" and for me, it's the best performance I've seen in a movie.
Elizabeth Taylor definitely had persona. She had "it". I think a lot of it is the face.

I loved Gena Rowlands in "Gloria". Yeah.
Maybe it's because I'm queer but Elizabeth Taylor is not only a great actress, she has that overwhelming persona. She makes the character interesting regardless of the role.
I can't for the hell of me think of the name of the film, but it had Elizabeth Taylor and Carolyn Jones. And Jones played some strange beatnik chick.
I think the most talented actress is Gena Rowlands.
Here's cuts from both films:
"Le Chat" is very atmospheric. But then again it's French.
After that, you say On The Waterfront…
I almost wish I had cable. I do have WAOVW? in my library… I may watch that later.
As for The Cat, I haven't seen that one. Sounds interesting. Which year? I tried looking it up, but there are so many under that title.
