I have Shute's novel on my bedside desk. First edition hardback. An immensely moving and carefully developed story and easily my favourite work from him. When our time comes on the 20th I imagine I'll be similarly curled up in bed. It's strange to be part of an internet-age apocalyptic story. Deleted in one fell swoop and scattered to the four winds. Someone should make a film out of this debacle in years to come. It could stream on Amazon Prime, perhaps.

Something to be hoped for, but the boards for individual films, players, directors and so forth are carrying the same announcement.
I've been active on the CFB for only the last couple years. Until then, those individual boards had comprised the totality of my imdb participation, other than the occasional review, since 1999.
What a waste of an irreplaceable resource their closing will be.

Ugh that's exactly what it feels like. And I have always hated apocalyptic stories where everybody vanishes - my own future demise doesn't bother me anything like this.
Why can't they at least keep the individual movie boards, or at the very least the boards for little known movies? For those it's almost impossible to find discussion anywhere else. It's almost like getting Cheyenne killed all over again.
