Hi flaiky!
I really admire your proactivity on things like this. I'm ever so glad to hear that OldAle has been in contact with you and is considering returning. I dearly hope that the polls can pick up as they were because they really were/are a fascinating thing to be part of. Hoping for further heartening and promising news on that front!
Sadly, I really don't think I could offer much in terms of actually overseeing and running a poll. I hope that enough people can put their hands up should Ale feel it's a venture that he doesn't wish to return to.
As for approaches to presentation, I think I'd pretty much leave be. Might be a bit of an overload to work in a performance aspect to the results as well!
That's all, folks!

Thanks for sharing his PM. I can understand his aversion for the trolls. All the meaningless posts from posters to be nameless have turned me away from CFB as well. This poll is one of the few things that keeps me coming back. Wish he would just pass the baton publicly instead having us sitting on our hands waiting.
I'll be happy to lend a hand. I take that you'll be taking the lead in reviving the poll, so let me know through PM about the plan. Thank you for keeping the poll going, and look forward to the reboot.

Just so you know, he apologised when he PMed me and explained a bit (hopefully he won't mind me posting this here):
Sorry for not being communicative with people - the trolling really did get to me, and that combined with a lessening interest in film, being busy with family stuff in July and August, and going back to an old forum that actually has mods and, quite literally, ZERO trolls has kept me from thinking too much about IMDb [other stuff] Again, I'm sorry that I just left the ball in mid-air, but I guess I just don't handle certain things very well.
I'm assuming that he didn't make a conscious decision to disappear, otherwise he would have said something first. Anyway, yes, he's given his blessing so I think the next poll will start soon. I was hoping he'd get back to me about whether we should do 1932 but I haven't heard anything more.
So I think we just go ahead with that year since there was already a recommendations thread for it.
I agree with your schedule, that's what I was thinking too. Thanks for offering to run them occasionally, I'm sure we'll take you up on that!
We now have four people which is really good.
I'll be waiting, with a gun and a pack of sandwiches.

Granted, I know it is a lot of work to tabulate the result because I did the annual performance tabulation a few times already. I actually enjoyed it since it is my kind of work. OldAle is also very ambitious in his presentation. I really do appreciate his effort providing us all the interesting information.
If OldAle is sore about that heckler, he should know he has his supporters including me. If his family issue or computer problem is getting his way, I wish he has the courtesy of letting us know and have someone else keep the poll going, or just no need to be that perfect in his presentation. People understand. So it is not cool for him to leave us twisting. Sometime it went so long after the poll without the result that I have forgotten about the poll.
I would propose the following poll schedule: One poll per month. First three weeks running the po1l. The fourth week doing the tabulation. A break in the fourth week. We leave January for the annual pool. We would therefore have 11 year-by-year polls and one annual poll a year. Zetes is already taking the reign for the annual poll. If more than one hosts, the hosts can alternate unless one is not available for the schedule month and go to the next host.

The polls are getting too few and far between that I am starting to lose interest. If OldAle continues to disappear and can't access his laptop so frequently, he should relinquish the position. I am willing to host a few to get the poll move along if it continues to get stagnant.

Hey everybody! Nice to hear about the continuation (or re-start) of the polls! I do plan on doing a 2016 poll starting on Jan. 1st 2017 (running through the month of January), so try not to run into that one if you can. Thanks.

Thanks a lot to flaiky and gromit for stepping in. I'm glad it's moving now and OldAle still being around. I suggest you start it over in your very own way, since the first cycle was complete, apart from the more recent years. About figuring the sequence of the years, I merely used this random generator:
https://www.random.org/lists/
, bacck when I hosted the polls, and only slightly altered the sequence when two or more consecutive years came out to close to each other.
But I saw gromit already compiling rough lists of poll releases and their dates, so, go for that, as well. Also, in my opinion, you don't have to adopt OldAle's way of presenting the results. Hosts can almost work however they want to which is their very own and well deserved privilege
Have fun!

I found a reference in another poll result where OldAle said we were going to do 1947 as the following poll, in February 2013, and 1993 was to be two polls after that (with 1923 between them, and I have the results of that year). So 1993 would probably have been in April 2013.

Wow, comprehensive! Thanks. I didn't realise you had so much of the history or I probably wouldn't have PMed OldAle, though of course it's fortunate that I did. It seems that I've been involved for almost exactly four years (pretty sure my first poll here was 2002, looking through the list).

On September 12, 2011, Lechuguilla posted the following list of years we had
not
polled yet:
1920, 1921, 1922, 1923, 1926, 1928,
1930, 1934, 1937, 1938
1943, 1947, 1949
1952, 1954, 1959
1961, 1963, 1966
1970, 1973, 1975, 1977
1982, 1984, 1986, 1988, 1989
1990, 1993, 1995, 1996, 1999
2000 - 2010
So that means that we
had
polled the following years before then:
1924, 1925, 1927, 1929
1931, 1932, 1933, 1935, 1936, 1939
1940, 1941, 1942, 1944, 1945, 1946, 1948
1950, 1951, 1953, 1955, 1956, 1957, 1958
1960, 1962, 1964, 1965, 1967, 1968, 1969
1971, 1972, 1974, 1976, 1978, 1979
1980, 1981, 1983, 1985, 1987
1991, 1992, 1994, 1997, 1998
And based on that information, the following is the list (arranged by polling year) of what was polled when. The dates below are when the results were released; I only have the results postings, not the original poll dates.
