Bartholomew Bat Masterson, an iconic name in the Wild West, was born in Canada. Masterson sometimes used the name William Barcley or Bartley Masterson. He began his law enforcement career in Dodge City, Kansas alongside fellow deputy Wyatt Earp. I have lived in a town associated with Masterson, Trinidad, Colorado where Bat was town marshall in 1882.
The TV series ran for three seasons from October 8, 1958 to September 21, 1961.
Trust me. Im The Doctor.

I didn't much care for the theme song, but the show was pretty good. Masterson would show up in town and side with the underdog or put a crooked casino out of business. My favorite shows were the ones where he'd use his fancy cane as a weapon. Although he carried a gun, it was the cane that set him apart.

It's on weekdays on Encore Westerns.
It's O.K., but I could take or leave it. Gene Barry as Masteron comes off a bit smug to me. Occasionally a clever plot, sometimes just routine.

All of these shows makes me get interested in knowing the reality of the wild west. Where did people go, and how did it evolve?

Watching westerns as a lad, I preferred the "cowboy" (Rawhide, Cheyenne) over the "Western Dude" (Bat Masterson, Maverick) so I wasn't a big fan of Bat. I don't recall there being a lot of action in Bat, but judge for yourself. Encore Western shows episodes daily or you can find episodes on Youtube.
