Just expect the first season to be a little hit and miss. The trope named "growing the beard" comes from TNG getting better when Riker has a beard.
The series really hits its stride in season 3.

I got paramount plus a few months ago and I've been watching all star trek in release order and it's been pretty great so far
I'm working through the first few movies so I'll be starting TNG soon

I haven't watched all Star Trek series, but I love TNG better than anything Star Wars. I like Star Wars, but if you can't enjoy any Star Trek, you're either a child or have the depth of one.
