Some movies should never be remade and The Wizard of Oz is one of them. It is timeless. That is why it is still watched today. A remake will not improve upon it.

It has to be a 'Murican thing, this Wizard of oz fixation. In Europe they don't much care about that movie, they relate more to The Sound of Music, because of the Alps, which - as most 'Muricans might not know - are in Europe.
I have never seen the Wizard of Oz, nor do I want to. It sounds stupid. Also, AFAIK, there's no nudity in it so that's another big reason not to watch it. Or, wait, isn't there a lion in it? Maybe the lion is nude. Anyway, I will always give this movie a miss. Well, this movie and Grease. I'm not gay!

It's too long, flat and dreary in parts. Not enough pizazz or attitude for an all-black cast.
There are some memorable moments, just not enough.

In a way, Precious's wizard and/or good fairy was Mariah Carey the social worker. We know her evil mother was the wicked witch.

It is a very sad movie. I just meant that if anybody needed all the things that TWOZ brought to Dorothy, it's Precious.

Well, if Christina wants up to date and relatable, I'd say no girl needs the Wizard of Oz and all its accessories more than this poor, lost soul.

I NEVER know what to make out of ANY of your posts.
Christina doesn't comprehend context, she is so in the moment of what is going on in her wild mind at the time she has a thought, it just comes out as it does without deliberation or discernment.
I'd say she is just asking for a remake that is relatable to her as she perceives it now and she loves musicals.
