Awesome movie. I love films and shows about Korea's Joseon period, but so many of them are ****ty melodramas, so when stuff like Uprising, Kingdom, The Swordsman, The Fortress and The Crowned Clown come along, I'm all for it.
Uprising is set before, during and immediately after the Imjin War. We do get to see a battle between the Japanese invaders and Joseon's forces, and the primary antagonist is a samurai commander, but in the film the war is secondary to its consequences, the misery of the peasants, and the revolt against the social order.
Uprising is a good movie even if you don't know anything about the Imjin War and the Joseon dynasty, but if you know the basics it's even more entertaining.
